17 Things I’ve Learned at 17

This is a really long post haha, I hope y’all enjoy and learn something.

1.Just because you fall in love, doesn’t mean he’s the one.

-This is a hard lesson I learned last year. I fell in love with a boy, and in my hopeless romantic mind, I thought that was it. I always believed that once you fall in love, he’s the one. You can’t fall in love over and over again.

Oh how I was mistaken. Yes I fell in love, and I’m going to fall in love with many people in my life, but that doesn’t mean I am going to marry them. Life is full of love. I’m going to go through multiple people before finding true love. Lesson learned, the hard way.

 2. People are at different stages of life, and that’s perfectly ok.

-A friend of yours may be going through a situation or learning a lesson that you’ve already experienced, and that’s completely ok. Everyone is at a different stage in their lives and thats normal. The person next to you may know more or less, you never know. Don’t get frustrated, be patient.

3. Trust Your Gut.

-Simple enough.

4. The Importance Of Family.

-Family warms my heart. In the past year, I’ve grown super close to my parents and have regained a bond with my sister. It’s comforting to know that these are the people who have your back and support you no matter what. I’m really lucky to have such a great bond, I don’t take it for granted.

5. Love Over Hate.

-It’d be so much better spending your time loving rather than hating. Learn to love, or if not, tolerate things- whether that’s a person or a situation. Adjust and stay positive.

6. Maintain A Level Head.

-Remain calm, don’t freak out. If a friend does you wrong, sit down and talk it out. Stay rational and patient. It’s never good to get angry and lash out.

7. Cautious Friendships.

-Friends aren’t always people you can trust. I’ve loved so many friends who have either ditched me and/or treated me with such a lack of respect. Yet, I loved them all. Keep your eyes open in a friendship, and protect yourself.

8. Love yourself.

-Put yourself first- one of the hardest lessons I’ve learned, again. If all of your friends are going out, but you’re really tired, choose sleep. Put your own well-being (physical, emotional, mental, etc.) first, always.

9. Know What You Deserve.

-Do not settle, whether it’s a boy, or a job, or the way someone’s treating you. Know your own value, and don’t take anything less.

If a boy doesn’t see how great you are and chooses another girl over you, but then comes running back…. BOY BYE!

10. Run.

-Running is my form of relaxation. Find something you love and do it as often as you can.  It could be watching television or drawing. There’s got to be something 🙂

11. Adventure.

-Adventure is another form of relaxation for me. I love exploring and finding new places, I feel that this also expands my knowledge of the world.

12. Be Yourself.

-Do what you love and love fearlessly. Don’t be afraid of what others may think. Yes, for so long I was insecure about loving Taylor Swift. Everyone already knew but yet I was still insecure. Now, I don’t care about others opinions. This is what I love, and I’m going to love it. Leave me alone. lol

13. You Can’t Control Everything.

-Really shitty things are going to occur in your life. You’ll fail a test, your friend will backstab you, you’ll drop your coffee on yourself. Things are going to happen and you can’t always control it, and THAT’S OK! Learn to go with the flow and not dwell on these things for long.

14. Friends Come And Go.

-Again with the friends. Not everyone is going to stay the same. We all grow and change naturally as life goes on and we experience things. Don’t expect to have the same best friend 20 years from now.

15. Money Doesn’t Grow On Trees.

-Working in a fast food restaurant for 9 months opened my eyes, let me tell you. It’s taught me to appreciate what my parents provide me. I already knew the value and importance of money, but getting my fist job emphasized that.

16. Liars.

-No matter how hard you try, no matter how many precautions you put up, people can still lie to you. It’s frustrating and disappointing but people will do what they do. A boy promised he wouldn’t lie to me, two days later, I found out that he had lied. No matter what you do, it can still happen.

17. Take A Break.

-This month, things got too much. I lost myself. Life goes rushing by and I wasn’t focusing on myself. Drama drama drama. As Taylor says “Another day another drama drama, but not for me not for me, all I think about is karma” (LWYMMD). I got to take a break and essentially “find myself” again when I went home to celebrate my birthday. It was refreshing and relaxing to get a break from it all.
